New in SL?

This page is intended to help newbees. Not to fully understand SL, but starting in this world that can sometimes seem so complicated in the beginning ...

What are the basics function? What can we do in SL? Or where can we find people? help?

This notecard to not respond at all. Impossible. Each person has his needs, problems, ... But will help you to start and maybe give you some tips.

A-  Basis Function

1-    To move

It happens that some newbees use the move tool proposed in the viewer. Personally, I find it bad, not practical at all.
I rather use the arrow keys on the keyboard. Try it, it’s more simply ...
Press once you walk. Press twice, you run.

2-    Your inventory

This is your treasure box. Everything you buy, receive, ... will be in your inventory! And where is this inventory? You see the suitcase on the right (or left - depending on the viewer)?  Click on it and presto you have open your inventory!
You have two main tabs: Inventory and Recent. The inventory shall contain all. Recent, what you have received, purchased during your connection.
Some viewer have a third tab: worn. It's simple, it's what you wear.

3-    How to take or buy an item?

There ... several ways. Very often, simply right click on the desired object and click "Buy." Or simply left click once. These are the basic techniques. You will come out with it.

4-    How to use what you have purchased or received?
You can receive objects  directly by objects / folder.  You can aslo receive it in a box. For the first method, the use is simple. If you have purchased or received an outfit, just right click on it and choose to wear.

But for the box, you will find an area where you can drop it (look for the sandbox in research). In this sandbox, you have to drop your box on ground. How to do that? Click the object and drag on the ground there. Is it done? right click and open. Then a window opens. Select save in the inventory. Now, your desire is usable from your inventory.

5-    Loading textures is slow?

Images, textures load slowly? A little trick. Right-click the object whose image load improperly. Just right-click. Do nothing else. Wait a minute. Very often, it speeds up loading.

6-    How talking with someone?

For simplicity, two methods: local chat and IM (private message).

For local chat, you can see the small white line at the bottom left? So… type your sentence, then enter and hop the world around you read what you want to say. Attention, the local chat reads up to a certain distance. And im ... right click on the person then choose  im. Here you can talk with him, in discretion.

7-    You lag?

Second Life requires a lot of resources. Unlike a game where everything is pre-register.  In SL, you must reload each change of location (each Teleportation), each reconnection. The reason is simple. These are the players, called residents, who create the content and not an external box. Suddenly, everything can change overnight.

The source of lag can be a bit of everything. But the main ones:

-    The sim (virtual island). Many people, many scripts, ...  ask a lot of work on the servers. It's like a PC. You ask a lot to your PC, it is slow.

-    You. You wear too many scripts, you wear too much "stuff" on you, asking a lot of resources

-    Your bandwidth

-    Your graphics card

-    Your PC.

All these elements may explain the lag. Sometimes reducing some things (graphic quality from your preferences in the viewer), or stopping some software on your PC, lighten your avatar (but avoid being naked can improve the fluidity of SL.

Oh yeah one more thing ... an event without lag is not always successful event.  A big crowd… that move a lot and… lag is present. But wow, the event, the atmosphere is cool!
